Practical Arts

The courses in the Practical Arts Department provide skills in areas that are useful to all students. The skills that are taught and developed within the curriculum of the department not only serve as a sound academic background but also are very realistic and applicable for the students both today and in their future. The practical aspects of each course are emphasized in order to better prepare the students for everyday living. The role of industry in our society, collegiate and career opportunities, development of leisure time skills, and safe, efficient work habits are components of each area of study.

Hands-on experiences in a number of technical areas are available to all students. All students must take at least 5 credits in the area of business or practical arts to graduate. A multi-year sequence of technical studies is available in:

  • Architectural Design
  • Automotive Services
  • Engineering
  • Family/Consumer Sciences
  • Television Production
  • Woodworking
