Introduction to Television/Video Production

5 credits
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
By making television programs about the high school that will appear on local cable television, students will learn the basics of television production techniques, in front of the camera and behind it. They will also write and tape movies, which may appear on cable television. Students use camcorders on location (out of the studio), and tape with multiple cameras in the television studio. They will use computers to make titles and special effects. Students use sound mixers and microphones. They will learn the fundamentals of editing. Hollywood films will be analyzed from the viewpoint of how the filmmakers used film to tell the story.

Television/Video Production II
5 credits
Grades 10, 11, 12
Students will strengthen and expand skills in on-location and studio production. Students will learn advanced video camera and television studio skills, in front of the camera and behind it. They will learn to edit using VCRs and computers. Editing skills will help to refine students' camera work. They will produce programs for local cable television and a movie. They will continue to learn the language of film and television by analyzing TV shows and movies. Prerequisite: Television Production I.

Television/Video Production III
5 credits
Grades 11, 12
Students will put what they have learned in their previous courses into practice by refining camcorder, studio production, and editing skills. They will produce programs for local cable television and a movie. Students will use digital camcorders and non-linear (computer) editing systems. Professional video editing software will be used. They will explore college TV/film programs, businesses, and meet TV/film professionals. Prerequisite: Television Production II.
