There are several ways that you may accelerate your study of mathematics while you are a student at Hopewell Valley Central High School. Please contact your current mathematics teacher and school counselor to develop an individualized plan. All accelerations for mathematics fall under the option II category and students will earn Pass or Fail credit. This will show on their transcript pending the outcome of the district exam(see the date below). Placement in the following course will follow the guide in the program of studies with one exception. To earn honors placement in a course that follows an honors course then you must earn the recommendation by taking the honors exam. (Example: to earn the recommendation for Functions, Statistics, & Trigonometry Honors the student must take the Advanced Algebra Honors exam and not the Advanced Algebra exam.)
The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the mathematics department at Central High School recommend that students take a mathematics course for each of their four years of high school. A math class in the senior year should particularly prepare students for the mathematical concepts that they might need in work or college. With this in mind, the New Jersey graduation requirement of three years of mathematics, and the importance for students to progress through their math education with confidence, students should carefully consider their options when attempting to accelerate.
