The Student-to-Student Service Project is a school community-based effort to heighten awareness and promote participation in helping those faced with less fortunate situations.
Each grade level at Stony Brook Elementary School will “adopt” a charity. To create a sustained effort over time, the students will support the selected charity until the end of fifth grade. As our students grow during their elementary years, so too will their contributions to their charity.
To raise funds for their charity, students are asked to plan and engage in parent-supervised service at home and/or in the community. For example, a student might donate a portion of his allowance or donate extra money earned raking leaves, doing household chores, or watching a younger sibling. The idea is to place emphasis on the student’s responsibility and effort in making a difference for others. No one is too small to make a big impact.
