Mission Statement
The mission of Hopewell Valley Regional School District's School Counseling Services Department is to provide a comprehensive, developmental counseling program addressing the academic, career and personal/social development of all students. School counselors are advocates who provide support to maximize student potential and academic achievement. School counselors work in partnership with other educators, parents/guardians, and the community to assist in preparing all students in the Hopewell Valley Regional School District with the knowledge and skills needed to be productive, contributing members of society.

Kevin Kirwan graduated from Trenton State College in 1979 with a Bachelors degree in Industrial Arts Education. He began his career at Fisher Junior School, teaching for two years. Kevin also owned a small business that specialized in custom furniture and millwork. Kevin joined Hopewell Valley School District in 1986. He taught Woodworking, Construction, Architectural Drawing, and ran a Co-Op program in trades. Kevin began the peer mediation program and supervised the peer leadership program at Central High School. He graduated in 1996 with a Masters degree in counseling from Rider University. Kevin began at Bear Tavern in 1996, was at Timberlane from 1997-1999, and came back to Bear Tavern in 1999. Kevin has been at Bear Tavern ever since, working with the students and faculty.
