Douglas Brower joined the faculty of the Hopewell Valley School District in 1985 as a teacher of business education at Central High School. He received an A.A. degree from Mercer County Community College, a B.S. and M.A. degree in business education and administration from Rider University and pursued additional graduate studies in educational administration. He also engaged in extensive study of instructional technology. During his first five years as a Central High School faculty member, he was the girls' varsity basketball coach, achieving coach-of-the-year honors.
Mr. Brower currently is the K-12 Supervisor of Educational Technology, Business, Practical Arts and Media and is responsible for the high school TV studio, HV-TV Channels 19 and 32, educational technology policies, planning and procedures, the high school cooperative education program and the district student and staff FirstClass e-mail and conferencing system. A major part of his responsibility is technology staff development.
Mr. Brower has served the district in a number of supervisory roles since 1990 including the Supervisor of Alternative Education. He has been the only supervisor of educational technology the district has known, filling that role when it was created in 1994. In 2002, Mr. Brower was honorable mention for the New Jersey Association for Educational Technology Technologist of the Year award. He was integral with the installation of networked computers in labs and classrooms and the video network, including data projectors, connecting our secondary classrooms to the TV studio and out to Comcast and Verizon programming.
Current projects include the extension of the secondary video network to the elementary schools, the implementation of Smartboard technology in all of our K-12 classrooms and the incorporation of 21st century skills across our K-12 curriculum.
A 32-year member of the Prospect Heights Vol. Fire Co. in Ewing Township, Mr. Brower serves as its president and is a fire-line officer serving as Assistant Chief. He resides in Ewing with his wife, Daphne, a member of the faculty of the Central High School Wellness Department, and their children, Kyle, Nicholas, Brianna, and Cameron.
