Health Services

The office of health services operates under the umbrella of the office of pupil services. School health services are provided by certified full-time school nurses, whose major focus is the prevention of illness and disability and the early detection and correction of health problems. The school nurses are especially prepared and uniquely qualified in preventive health assessment and referral procedures and emergency care.

Sharing of Medical Information

Current privacy legislation prohibits school nurses from sharing medical information with other school personnel, even when required for emergency services, without written parental permission. Because sharing important information on a need-to-know basis can greatly enhance a child's academic performance and personal safety, the office of pupil services strongly urges parents to provide that permission. Discretion is guaranteed.
