Facilities

The facilities department is responsible for the general repair and maintenance of the district's six schools and administration building. The district's building inventory is valued at over $150 million and includes three buildings dating to the 1920s, the historic Toll Gate Grammar School, Hopewell Elementary School and the original Central High School, now used for administrative offices, on South Main Street in Pennington. The department also cares for the district's athletic facilities and grounds at all buildings and oversees the work of custodial crews district-wide.

Norman Torkelson has served as the district's director of facilities since 1999. A former science teacher and one-time general contractor specializing in energy-efficient technologies, Mr. Torkelson came to Hopewell Valley from the Princeton Regional School District, where he held a similar position in the 1990s.
